May as Medicine: Nurses, Mothers, and the Roots of Healing

May always feels like a reset to us. Not in a dramatic way, just a quiet shift. Things soften. The pace changes a little. You start to remember that healing doesn’t always come from doing more, sometimes it comes from coming back to what’s natural.

And every year, this month holds two things that matter deeply to us. Nurses Week, May 6 through May 12, and Mother’s Day, which lands right in the middle of it. Different roles, but when you really look at them, they carry the same energy.

“CARE.”

Not the kind that’s measured in tasks or checklists, but the kind that asks you to be present, to pay attention, to keep showing up even when you’re tired or stretched thin. Nurses live that every day. Mothers do too. And a lot of the time, those roles overlap in ways that don’t get talked about enough.

What we have come to understand over the years is that this kind of care has roots. Long before healthcare became what it is today, care often started with plants. Cannabis, hemp, herbs, fungi were not alternatives, they were medicine. People worked with what they had, and there was an understanding, even without the science, that the body responds to nature in a very real way.

Now we are in a place where science is catching up. We can explain some of what people have known intuitively for a long time. The Endocannabinoid System is a regulatory system that helps maintain balance across mood, pain, sleep, immune function, and hormones. When cannabinoids are used, they are not introducing something foreign. They are interacting with a system that is already there, already working to keep the body in balance.

We see this especially in women. Women carry a different physiological and emotional load over time. Hormonal shifts, reproductive health, menopause, chronic stress, and pain patterns that are often dismissed or minimized all add up. Many women are trying to function through this without real support.

This is where plant medicine, when it is used thoughtfully, can make a meaningful difference. Not as a cure all and not as something to overdo, but as another way to support the body. More CBD, more of the minor cannabinoids, being mindful with THC, and understanding how to layer support in a way that works with the body instead of overwhelming it. This is where nuance matters.

And this is where nurses matter.

This space can get noisy. There is a lot of information, a lot of products, and a lot of promises. What people actually need is guidance that makes sense. Someone who can help them understand dosing, avoid taking too much THC which can worsen symptoms, choose products that are clean and tested, and feel supported in the process.

That piece, the nonjudgment, is bigger than people realize.

This is the work we do every day through Holistic Caring & The Green Nurse. Education, guidance, and real conversations that meet people where they are. Not one size fits all care, but individualized support that reflects real life.

And when it comes to products, quality matters just as much as education. That is why we align with Bloom Hemp CBD, providing clean, tested, thoughtfully formulated options that support this kind of care.

If you have been thinking about bringing plant medicine into your routine in a more intentional way, this is a good time to explore it. Bloom is offering 20 percent off with code SPRING20. For those looking for deeper guidance, programs through Holistic Caring and The Green Nurse are available at 50 percent off with code NURSE50 during Nurses Week and the month of May.

This moment in healthcare matters. Patients are asking different questions. Women are advocating for themselves in new ways. Nurses are stepping into roles that extend beyond traditional models, especially in areas like cannabinoid care and plant medicine.

This is not about replacing what we know. It is about expanding it.

So when we think about this month, it is not just about recognition. It is about remembering what care actually is at its core. It is layered, human, and not one size fits all.

To the nurses who are holding more than most people see, we see you.

To the mothers and maternal figures who continue to give, often without pause, we see you too.

And to anyone trying to feel better in their body, there are more options than you have likely been given. Plant medicine is one of them, when it is used with intention and the right support.

This is the kind of care we need more of, and nurses are leading the way forward.

“Women, Nurses, and Mary Jane (A Blooming Tribute)”
A May Ode to Care, Strength, and Plant Medicine

Roses are red, violets are blue,
Women hold it together, it’s nothing new.
Nurses and mothers, daughters and friends,
Showing up daily, giving with no end.

Between long shifts, home life, and all in between,
They carry more weight than most have seen.
Holding the line with skill and with grace,
Even when there’s little left in the tank to replace.

But tucked in the rhythm of all that they do,
Is a quiet return to something more true.
Plant medicine waiting, steady and calm,
A moment to soften, a breath, a balm.

A gummy, a softgel, a tincture at night,
Bringing the body back into balance and light.
CBD for the stress, CBG for the mind,
A little support for the ones always kind.

For the nurses who guide and the mothers who care,
For the women who give more than seems fair,
This is your moment to pause and receive,
To rest, to restore, to simply breathe.

Through Bloom Hemp CBD, we honor that space,
And the work we support through Holistic Caring & The Green Nurse with grace.
Care that is thoughtful, informed, and true,
The kind of support that reflects all you do.

So here’s to the women who rise every day,
Who lead, who nurture, who quietly stay.
Not perfect, not endless, just human and real,
Learning that care also means how you feel.

This May we honor you, steady and strong,
You’ve carried so much for so very long.
Now let it come back, even just a little bit,
Because you deserve care that actually fits.
